When I Participated In A Color Run 5k, I Had A Really Wonderful Time

By Kimberly A. Salzerell

Man, I just got back from one of the most bizarre, yet fantastic experiences of my life: the color run 5k. Now, I have participated in a bunch of 5k runs, but this was a totally different experience from any of those. First of all, the website where I registered was far more quirky and was actually funnier than any other event website I have ever seen, and when I got to the actual event, the staffers and volunteers were excited beyond belief.

Now if you are like I was a few weeks ago, you probably have no clue what a color run 5k is, so let me explain it to you. When I arrived at the race, they handed me a registration packet which held a nice looking t-shirt, a pair of sunglasses, and a packet of information. I put my runner number on as well as my sunglasses, and I did some simple stretches as I waited for the starter pistol.

Once the race began, I set out at a nice pace, but I wasn't too worried about winning the race, I was just there to enjoy myself and to get some good healthy exercise. After just a few minutes of running, we found ourselves enveloped in a delightful cloud of color. Every few minutes along the way, the Color Bomb Squad would bombard the runners with the lively, brightly colored powder, to the absolute delight of the runners.

These periodic blasts of blissful color are what makes the color run so much fun, and everyone was having a great time. I ran the five kilometers pretty quickly, getting covered with colored powder all along the way, and when I got to the finish line, I looked and felt like a living rainbow.

At the finish line was a celebration like none I have ever experienced, and all of us who ran were admiring the unique and exciting color patterns on each other's faces. I hoped to stay in that moment forever, but even though the moment had to end, I had a fantastic memory that I could keep with me forever. I enjoyed myself so much that I could barely wait to participate in another one and when I heard about the color run San Diego was going to have, I decided I should go visit my sister and introduce her to the amazing experience of a color run.
