The school is a great place to start learning new sports that some students may be interested in. Many professional athletes begin their careers by participating in their schools extra-curricular activities involving sports. It would truly be beneficial for the lives of the children and the community in general if schools actively find ways to encourage students to participate in sports. The following are a few tips on how to encourage students to participate in sports :

* Provide grade bonuses

Teachers could announce that they are giving additional bonuses in grades to those who participate in the schools sport program. This will make even those diligent students think about joining a school sport. Also organize school organizations for each sporting activities. This way, even those who don't get to qualify as varsity players have a chance to hone their skills and try out for the team next time.

* Use the popularity of students to get attention

Younger students usually admire older popular students. The school's sport program can use this to their advantage by using the popularity of some older kids to recruit others into joining the sport.

* Observe students who are good in certain sports and recruit them

PE teachers see all potential athletes in during their physical education classes. All students are candidates to becoming great athletes if they are given the opportunity.

* Find ways to distribute sponsored freebies to those who participate in sports

Free sports stuff is a great way to get the students' attention to try out for sport teams. The school can get the help of local sports store to sponsor some of the equipments and gear that are needed in sports. You can also get cheap trophies to give out in local competition.

* Display memorabilia of past sports legends in the hallways or any crowded area of the school

Sports give students figures to look up to. And showing them that their efforts will not be forgotten through trophies UK national sports tournaments for example, can boost their enthusiasm not only to join but also to improve their skills.
