Positive Exercising Techniques for School Basketball Teams

By Tony Spinzola

When it comes to basketball training, it's more than a question of whether or not you train hard; you have to train smart too. When you decide on your course of action, stay with it all the way because it is constant training that will take you where you want to be. To get better at basketball, you need to work on a variety of skills and also work on your strength and endurance.

You must have the right kind of basketball training, plus you need to have total commitment to doing them.

Endurance training is the single most essential aspect of training for basketball. You need almost endless reserves of energy to compete on the court, and without this, skills and abilities won't help you. Endurance building, therefore, is an essential part of basketball training. Whether you run, jump rope or ride a bike, you have to do activities that improve your aerobic fitness. This is something to focus on all year, and not only while playing basketball. If you make aerobic fitness the foundation of your basketball training, you'll be in a good position to improve your all around conditioning.

Sometimes it can be tough to stay motivated, so that is why having someone to do drills with can be such a benefit for both of you. If you're self-motivated to do it, individually, then that's great; but you may want to at least think about a basketball training buddy. There are many two-person drills that you can now practice with a partner. Many basketball players have a weight training component in their program, so that is yet an additional training area you can do, together. The two of you can agree to not let each other down, and that way you will be sure to show up for practice. There are many ways to make your overall game much better, and this is something we hope you seriously consider.

We cannot overemphasize the importance of good discipline to stick to your training program. Let the losers skip basketball practice because that is simply the way it is - always be there no matter what. You wouldn't want you doctor to be only half-trained, therefore you make sure you put all your heart into your own training. If you approach your basketball training in a serious way, then you will be rewarded for your efforts. While natural talent can certainly be helpful, it is really your attitude towards training that is the biggest factor in how much progress you make in your game.

Ordinary running shoes are not basketball shoes, as you need shoes that provide extra support and cushioning. Most players prefer high top shoes, as these provide the most support for the ankles. It is also important to get a new pair of shoes as soon as your current pair shoe signs of wear and cushion hardening. Playing or training in worn out shoes can cause injuries, so if you want to get the most from your basketball training, make sure your footwear is in top condition.

You can really build your explosive power and speed for basketball with plyometric exercises. What you will get from doing these exercises is explosive physical abilities involving speed plus power. Just one example of this kind of training is called the pogo jump, and it will develop your jumping ability very effectively. If you are at all serious about basketball training, then you will incorporate the pogo jump because the results will speak for themselves. Just imagine how much better you can be when you totally transform yourself with the right training methods.

In addition to proper sleep, your other key to sustaining good physical condition is through good quality nutrition. If possible, try to avoid the three meal a day approach, and you can keep your energy going with more smaller meals scattered throughout your day. If you do not have a weight problem, then try not to lose much weight at all due to the strenuous nature of basketball. This is because the number of calories you burn up is so high that you are more likely to have a problem keeping weight on than having excess pounds. Even if you want to gain weight, however, you want to eat healthy foods, and a minimum of junk foods, sweets and low quality carbohydrates, as you want any weight you gain to be muscle and not fat.

Your degree of improvement will be determined by your commitment to basketball training and willingness to work hard. The greatest challenges will not be the physical kind, but rather it is the mental game and challenges to remain focused on training. These basketball training tips have been proven to be effective over and over again. The one and only way they will transform your game is if you put them to work.

There is no way around having the discipline to engage in performance boosting basketball training exercises. Basketball is a tough sport because you have to be good at the game plus be in top physical condition. It's great to learn all the training drills, but you have to always work hard, but it will pay off if you do.
