Mixed Martial Arts Guide For Beginners

By Calvin P. Warden

Myriad people have taken great interest in mixed martial arts in the recent times. This new found interest has literally escalated the sport to the next level. As more and more people enroll themselves in the sport, gyms are opening up in their numbers across the globe to meet this demand. These gyms offer classes in boxing, submission wrestling and Muay Thai among other arts. Some of these gyms however overlook sport-specific conditioning classes and this means that you have to fend for yourself in this area. Here are some tips to help you with your training.

Engage in core training more and more. Inner strength is very important and will determine the strength of your punches and kicks. What this means is that you have to take time to build your inner strength. Read books by professionals in the sport and search for more info on the Internet on how you can build your inner strength.

As you become more flexible as a fighter, you become more versatile as well. Experts in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu are very flexible. If you want to throw amazing kicks, you just have to be flexible. Flexibility reduces your chances of sustaining injuries in the course of training. Among the many training components, flexibility is actually the easiest to gain but it also goes as soon as you stop training.

Ditch those workouts that do not add any value and commit to functional exercises. If you want to be a pro in the sport, concentrate in multi-joint exercises. It is time for you to re-evaluate your workouts and engage in those that are helpful.

There are workouts that do not in any way enhance your prowess in the sport. Ditch such exercises. Get rid of those preacher curls and do some more supinated grip pull-ups to enhance your fighting performance.

The intensity of your training should vary. Fighting happens at a very high intensity. This means that your MMA training should also happen at high intensity to mimic the demands of the sport. Training at high intensity increases tolerance to lactic acid accumulation as accumulation of this acid reduces the contractile strength of the muscles.

Your mixed martial arts workouts should involve circuit training. Here, you perform a number of exercises progressively with no rest interval between the sets. Select your set of exercises carefully. Circuit training helps you to work on your muscle endurance since it imitates the demands of the sport.
