Three Recommended Suggestions to Improve Your Skateboard Skills

By Abynor Humidor

A friend of mine invested the better part of a year in simply practicing how to execute a perfect Ollie. After that, he spent a couple of months, practicing everyday, until he could execute a kick-flip. This can often be exasperating to learn. After a lot of invested time and effort, my friend discovered three methods of learning that helped him be really great at skateboard tricks and become an excellent skate boarder.

1. Summer Camp. By going to a skateboard summer camp, you get the opportunity to interact with other people with varying skill levels and abilities. The chance to interact with them can give you the opportunity to learn from both the beginners and the professionals. You should be able to copy a lot of skating styles and try out what works best for your body type, stance and skill level. Other skateboarders can also lend you a lot of support by encouraging you or offering tips. Camps are not cheap but they can really give you a very good overall experience and you get the chance to meet a lot of new friends.

2. Hire A Coach. Find a nearby skatepark and ask around for someone who is a skilled enough skateboarder and who is willing to teach for a fee. These people can correct your mistakes and also demonstrate valuable techniques when executing tricks. Try to practice on your driveway at your house or maybe at nearby open parking lots. Soon enough, you should be improving your skateboarding skills.

3. Purchase a Guide for Skateboarding. Another option that you have when it comes to learning is to take a look at guidebooks. Although, this is not really a recommended method of learning because you don't have anyone to advise you on important things such as correcting wrong stances or timing. Also, you might have to practice in front of a tv, which is not the brightest thing to do.

Probably the best way to use a guide book is to have one with a DVD. The better ones will break down the trick into smaller steps that you can practice. This can include how your feet are positioned, how your body is angled and the timing. You can read through this and check out the photos.

The important thing is to not be immediately discouraged and to just keep going. By combining all the better aspects of learning, you will soon become an accomplished skateboarder.
