Gift ideas for the people who have everything already

By Chris Phelps

When someone's birthday rolls around, and it is someone you love and care about and want to celebrate, it can be so hard to know what to get them. The older people get, the more they tend to simply buy what they want, within reason. So what do you buy for the person who seems to have everything? Often it is life experiences that means the most to people as they get older. Instead of 10 small gifts from various members of the family, it may make sense to pool money together and buy something truly special.

For the people who like a bit of adventure, but never seem to get around to having it, hot air balloon rides are a great birthday gift. No one ever thinks of just going and buying themselves a hot air balloon experience, but it is the perfect thing to get for someone else, and a great way to make a memory and cross something off their "yet to do list".

A Day out in London? Most of us never make it to the big city. We spend our lives on the foothills of one of the world's greatest cities, but we hardly get there. What about treating a loved one to a train journey down, a meal out, and a few other treats? There are loads of bargains to be had, and a day spent together in London is a day to remember.

Yet there are those who may not be super into things, or even meals out, but have a passion for a sports team or a favourite band. One small piece of valuable sports memorabilia, or music memorabilia, can sometimes be just the thing for someone's birthday. These sorts of gifts are often hard to justify simply buying for one's self, but make perfect gifts.

Making memories and sharing life experiences is what it's all about. When we are children we get excited about having things, and as we grow older, having things completely pales in comparison to having people in our lives who love and care about us and know just how to treat us on our birthday!
