It is advisable to bring beef jerky or trail mix with you on a camping trip. These little nutritious snacks can come in handy after a long day. These items keep for a long time so it won't be like your wasting food if you don't use them.

While you may count on Mother Nature to have plenty of wood to stoke your campfire, you may encounter only wet wood that won't burn. Bring some wood and store it in an area that is not moist when you camp.

Clean your campsite when you finish camping. Be sure to pack large plastic bags for clearing away trash. Do not leave food there, either. A good rule of thumb is to only leave your footprints behind.

Before you set out on your camping trip take the time to check the weather forecast for the area that you will be visiting. The Internet is a great resource for finding weather related information for the area you will be camping in. This way you will know what type of clothing to pack and the equipment you need.

Always seek shelter before it is too dark to assess your surroundings. Once things go dark, you will find it very hard to erect a tent, locate wood and cook a meal. That is particularly true if you aren't used to the blackness of the wilderness. Avoid being in that position; find good shelter before the sun goes down.

When camping out, you might meet some great people you want to keep as friends. Stay social and talk to campground neighbors. Camping offers lots of social opportunities. If you fail to meet new people while camping, you are truly missing something special.

Bring along a sleeping bag appropriate for the season. A winter bag for the summer will cause you to sweat all night. The opposite is true as well, a summer bag won't keep you warm in the winter. You may even develop hypothermia.

Bring oranges. Not only are they nutritious, but the peels can be used for mosquito repellant. After enjoying the sweet juicy fruit, use the inside of the peel to rub on skin for a chemical free insect repellant.

While the concept of camping involves getting away from it all, you still need to be prepared with some basic items. Packing a sleeping bag is pretty obvious, but take the extra precaution of including extra blankets too. This helps to warm you up in case it gets too cold at night. They are also good to use for extra padding.

First aid kits should be in everyone's camping arsenal. The kit should contain anything that you will need in case of an accident. You need to put essentials in your kit such as splints, bandages, snake bite remedies and gauze for dressing wounds. Accidents will happen on every trip, so it is important to take precautions in advance.
