The Top 5 Golf Training Aids

By Jeff Toomey

All golfers want lower scores, but year in and year out many golfers stay right within just a half-shot of their last year's handicap. One way to ensure lower scores is to take lessons from a local PGA professional. Of course, these can be very expensive. How about trying a golf training aid instead? Here are 5 great recommendations that can dramatically drop your scores this golf season.

Dual-hinged clubs, like the "Medicus", are very good swing aids for the amateur and professional golfer alike. These clubs will immediately hinge and be impossible to swing if the player takes the club away too fast, or off plane. When swung correctly, the player can actually hit balls. This means the correct swing is just "felt" by the golfer. This is a great tool that can really improve your game in just one practice session.

The "Tour Striker" is a swing aid that is very unique. On the front face of the club, the bottom half of the face is cut away. This forces the golfer to hit down and through the ball in order to hit off the upper part of the club face. For those people struggling with weak shots that go to the right, this club is for you!

Golf practice nets are a great at home practice aid that can dramatically increase strength, increase distance, and increase consistency. Many golfers find themselves hitting shots on the range once a week, and usually right before a round of golf. This isn't technically practicing the swing, but more warming up before the round. In order to hone a solid, consistent swing, one must make more swings! Consider a net, perhaps coupled with another swing aid to hone a perfect swing, and practice more this season.

A cheap and simple swing aid that works well for many people is called the "Impact Ball". This is a ball with 2 grooves cut out of it that fits in between the forearms during the swing. It promotes correct wrist rotation and perfect impact position. It's not bulky and it's very cheap, which is perfect for adding to your practice routine this year.

Putt less times every round, and you'll drop your score guaranteed. A great putting aid to consider is called the Site Line. It has two walls that force the putter to swing straight back and straight through, and has lines that promotes perfect set up and stroke every time. You'll be sinking more 5 and 10 footers after just a few practice sessions with this aid.

Try one or more of those 5 golf training aids this golf season and you'll find your game improve dramatically. It's time to change it up this year, beyond just buying the latest and greatest new clubs. Improve your swing and short game and you'll enjoy golf that much more.
