Developing a Chipping Pre-Shot Routine

By Jamie Faidley

A routine before each chip shot is vital for your game. If ever you'll be in a pressurized situation, a pre-shot routine would do wonders for your game as it allows you to get snug by repeating steps that you've done many times previously. Here are one or two common steps concerned in chipping pre-shot routines.

The number one thing you've got to do is you've got to read the green. Stand behind the ball and take a look at the way in which the green slopes and if there are any features that would bring about a rolling ball to begin to break. Visualize mentally where you want your chip shot to hit the green and how you expect the ball to roll out after it lands on the green up to indicate it stops by falling into the hole. You can then select the best club for the chip when you know where you need the ball to land and how much it needs to roll to get to the hole.

After choosing the club you'll use for your chip shot, you want to address the ball so you have lots of room to make practice strokes like the shot you're going to take. You need to make a consistent routine with your lie, stance and target for your practice strokes as well as your shot. Ensure that your setup is exactly where you'll be when you take the small step up to the ball, then take as many swings at the ball as you can in order to create that "feeling" of the swing that you think will translate to the shot you visualized. Different people have different routines, some glance at the hole as they take their practice strokes, others will look down just as they'll when making their chip shot.

Place the club behind the ball ensuring it is aimed toward your target. After the club is in place , step up to the ball and get into position. Look up at the target one last time then look back down at the ball. Wait an identical quantity of time after you glance at the ball before starting your chip shot. The less time you take looking down at the ball, the less time you have got to tense up and over assume the shot.

A pre-shot routine for chipping does not just help you to relax and get comfy before hitting the ball, and it helps you have got the proper setup before going on to make your chip. Most chipping mistakes typically happen due to wrong ball position, developing a pre-shot routine will go a ways to making sure you hit crisp, clean shots ever single time.
