Below you will find a list with the top major sports teams in Atlanta for you to cheer or just get to know their history and victories.

Atlanta Hawks, NBA

Since 1968, Atlanta has been home to the NBA's Hawks. While they have only won a single NBA title, the team has managed to remain topical every year. Doubtless the most well liked player in the team's history is Hall of Famer Dominique Wilkins, but the existing line-up is full of proficient players as well.

With players like Joe Johnson and Josh Smith anchoring the team, the Hawks have a solid foundation for the future. The team has made the playoffs each year since the 2007-08 season, and last year made it to the Conference Semifinals. Whenever NBA action resumes from the lockout, the Hawks will be a team to watch. The Hawks play in Atlanta's Philips Arena.

Atlanta Falcons, NFL

The Atlanta Falcons are one of the NFL's most exciting groups in Major League sports in Atlanta. Their explosive offense is lead by quarterback Matt Ryan, running back Michael Turner and wide receivers Roddy White and Julio Jones. In 2010, the team went 13-3 prior to being beaten in the playoffs by Green Bay, the resultant Super Bowl winners.

The team is familiar with winning, though, having been to the Super Bowl in 1998. While their 2011 season has started slow, the Falcons still think they can remain competitive and make a playoff run. The Falcons make their home in Atlanta's Georgia Dome, a $200 million facility which has been home to multiple Super Bowls and the Olympic Games.

Atlanta Silverbacks, NASL

For soccer action in Atlanta, fans need to look no farther than the NASL's Silverbacks. They're a team that has experienced swings and roundabouts, but is always entertaining. They were a playoff finalist in 1995, their first year as a Division 2 team in soccer's A-League. They used to be a USL First Division Runner-up in 2007 before moving to the NASL in 2011.

Now that they are in the NASL, the team has their eyes set on the future. The Silverbacks play their matches in Atlanta Silverbacks Park in Chamblee, Georgia. Notwithstanding not really playing their games in Atlanta, the park is simply a short 20 minute drive from Atlanta.

The Atlanta Silverbacks is a soccer team that is growing each year, and a opportunity to know them is very special.

Atlanta Dream, WNBA

The WNBA is a good choice for basketball for women's basketball fans and locked out NBA fans alike. One of the very best WNBA to look at is the Atlanta Dream, who have been one of the most prosperous groups in recent history. The Atlanta Dream franchise has a short history. It was set up in 2008, holding a growth draft shortly after its beginning.

Despite their limited history, the team has been to 2 WNBA Finals. This success has been due to their success in not only drafting, but also making trades. The team has featured several All-Stars, including Angel McCoughtry and Sancho Lyttle. The team plays in Philips Arena in Atlanta.
